RETURN TO CLIMBING DURING COVID-19
WE WILL BE OPENING 12TH APRIL
As you may be aware we will be opening under similar restrictions as to Tier 3 - High Alert - as we come out of strict lockdown in England. This means a few things for our climbers:
Please only socialise with your household (or bubble) within the centre and stick COVID precautions hands, face, space…
Please adhere to government COVID travel advice as these guidelines may continue to change.
And of course, MASK UP!
MASK UP!
To help control the spread of COVID-19, it is compulsory to wear a face mask / covering in all areas of the centre, unless…
- on the wall climbing
- using training / gym equipment
- medically exempt or aged under 11
This means whether you are stood on the bouldering mat, or in the general climbing area, you will be required to wear your mask until the point you start to physically climb or exercise. Once you have completed your climb, you must put your face mask back on. This policy is also relevant to those booked onto an instructed session or course and those belaying or supervising.
Late 2020 the Association of British Climbing Walls updated their industry standard guidelines that we have adopted in our Face Mask Policy.
Those exempt (aged under 11 or those with medical reasons) will not be required to wear face masks in the centre, however we do ask you to maintain social distancing throughout your stay, and respect other users in the centre.
Whilst it is not mandatory to wear a face mask on the wall, it is strongly recommended as it means you are not putting them on and off repeatedly, which best practice guidance suggests should be kept to a minimum and done with clean, sanitised hands to reduce the risk of contamination.
Please take a moment to watch our MASK UP! information video and advice below:

Took 20 explorer scouts here for a 90min session, great time had by all. Staff were lovely, very helpful, attentive and professional. Cafe staff excellent, brought our coffees to the table and their freshly made pizza was delicious. We will be back!
terrific
Went climbing for the first time with my girlfriend the other day; was a little unsure at first as I’m scared of heights, but Tom, who showed us the ropes (pun intended,) was absolutely fantastic! A genuine gem, and the climbing isn’t half bad either!

I had the pleasure of my two eldest children and my nephews over the half term. We decided on rock climbing as it was wet, no surprise there!! We choose Southampton Climbing Centre purely on the ease of booking over the phone, and we weren’t disappointed. All 4 kids thoroughly enjoyed themselves, not too much boring safety chat and plenty of climbing, the climb tested all the children’s determination, logical thinking, character and fears. They were gently pushed by the…

My kids (ages 7-13) enjoy coming here for both kids’ group sessions or occasionally to climb with me. The climbing experience is great, the staff are always friendly and helpful and there is a good coffee shop from which you can watch. I think the kids’ group sessions are quite expensive for what you get but if you can take your kid’s yourself it’s good value.
