Outdoor Climbing Season has begun…
Despite the bad weather over the past month, we have been able to climb outdoors at a variety of venues across the South, with groups ranging from Schools to kids’ clubs.
At the beginning of April, we had our first SQUAD outdoor climbing event of the year with a couple of days on Portland, sport climbing and bouldering. We had a special guest for the day from the Adventurous Activities Licensing Authority (AALA), checking we were operating at the correct standard to renew our license for a couple more years. Happy to say we passed with flying colours and nothing but compliments from the inspector.
We had squad kids as young as 7 and as old as 17 out with the instructors, we also had a former squad member as a Guest Coach for the weekend, who came along and inspired the latest cohort of the Parthian Youth Climbing Squad.
We celebrated the renewal of our AALA (Adventurous Activities Licensing Authority) with a 3-day outdoor climbing trip in the Wye Valley, with Emberly School. We had a mixed ability group, which over the course of 3 days we were able to upskill them and turn them into competent climbers. We abseiled of cliffs, traversed around ledges and climbed loads of different routes of different styles in different areas of Wintours Leap. We dodged the odd rain shower and explored the depths of the Wintours jungle, and the kids had a great time. (I’m reliably informed that they ALL slept on the coach on the way home!)
Outdoor Climbing is always at the CORE of what we stand for, and the instructors go out of their way to ensure that the kids get the best experience, in the safest manner possible. All Parthian instructors are enthusiastic outdoor climbers, and it’s great to share that experience with our customers and influence their Climbing Journey in a positive way.
In the 1st month of the outdoor season, we have managed to facilitate outdoor climbing for over 40 different kids of different ages. We have a NICAS outdoor climbing weekend coming up in June, and other squad weekend dates in August and October.
But what about the Adults?
We have a variety of dates that are bookable online for outdoor climbing experiences.
These include Outdoor Rock Intro’s and Learn to Sport Climb courses.
Rock intros are aimed at adults wishing to experience climbing on rock for the first time. We provide the kit, set up the ropes for you and look after you whilst you climb. The ropes will be in-place, like you see at the wall, but we’ll teach you about outdoor climbing techniques and ethics.
Learn to Sport climb is aimed at adults who lead climb indoors, who wish to learn how to be self-sufficient outdoor climbers on bolted sport crags. We provide all the equipment, enabling you to learn what you need, and try the kit before you commit to purchasing. We teach you how to ‘re-thread’ sport anchors and will be there with you when you do it for the first time. We include a 2hr skills session indoors the week before the crag day, then we all have a better understanding of what to expect and can tailor the day to you guys.
