This October we're bringing something new to Reading with the launch of the Reading Lead Open 2026, a brand new lead climbing competition built for climbers of every ability. Whether you're taking on your first ever comp or chasing a place in the finals, qualifying routes are spread across the whole centre so everyone gets a fair shot at the buzz of competition.
The top climbers then go head to head in a live final on our dedicated competition wall, with separate Male and Female finals turning the day into a proper spectator event for friends, family and fellow climbers.

Reading Lead Open 2026 is a brand new lead climbing competition designed for climbers of all abilities. Whether you're taking on your first competition or chasing a place in the finals, this is a day built for everyone.
The Format
Throughout the day, competitors will tackle a series of qualifying routes spread across the centre. Routes are suitable for a wide range of abilities, giving everyone the chance to test themselves and experience the buzz of competition. The top climbers then battle it out in a live final on our dedicated competition wall, with separate Male and Female finals creating an exciting spectator experience for friends, family and fellow climbers.
Route Setting
Our experienced setting team is creating around 14 exclusive King Line competition routes that showcase everything our centre has to offer. Qualifying climbs are spread throughout the gym, making use of all our standout feature walls, with every route designed specifically for this event.
Food, Drinks & Atmosphere
The Reading Lead Open isn't just about climbing. Our café will be serving a special competition menu throughout the day, with quick service to keep you fuelled between attempts. As the finals approach, we'll fire up the BBQ, open the bar, and transform the centre into a true spectator event. Bring your friends, relax with some great food and drinks, and enjoy an evening of high level climbing.
Entry Prices
Book early and save. Adult and Open entry is £25 Early Bird or £30 Standard. Under 16 entry is £15 Early Bird or £20 Standard. Members receive 50% off entry, including Early Bird pricing, making this fantastic value.

Highly recommend booking the adult beginners class for £20. Well worth the money if you are interested in starting a new hobby or just something to fill the evening with. I am terrified of heights but the instructor puts you at ease and puts time into talking through everything. We done 3 different routes on the climbing walls and we’re also given time bouldering. It was a lot of fun and will now be able to return without an instructor.

We went as a school trip with the children from year 6. It was well organised and the trip ran smoothly. They all had a great time and loved the activities. We had the family introduction session, which was excellent. I was really pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed it.
